I agree with Zed, but the top right is my favourite. The top left looks to me like a literary vagina in the process of giving birth. |

The first one is still the best for me. But all are good. And if it looks like a literary vagina, so much the better, surely!? |

Great stuff, Tony. The top left, bottom left and bottom right images are all excellent. By including the words 'vagina' and 'bottom' this thread has hit the search engine optimisation jackpot. I can't help suspecting some kind of high-level conspiracy to achieve that goal. |

Thanks folks! I just spent over three days making another model for another concept of the cover (I liked it more) only to find it too tricky to do (it nearly broke my printer trying to do one process). This idea took half a sweaty hour at 2.00 yesterday as there was a tiny bit of a deadline. The pics were taken with my phone. It's plasticene, Proto, covered in bits of local newsapaper stuck in a book on voodoo (this for people who like as much detail as I do). |

Wow, Tony, those are fantastic! And hearing how you did them makes them even more brilliant. I thought at first they were computer generated - but plasticine? Aardman Animations, eat your hearts out! For me, I think it's either the top two, or the bottom right. The one at bottom right looks like he's in a coffin. |

I think they work so well because we somehow know they're real, with the subsequent realisation that someone took the time to physically do all of that. |

Stewart Lee, though a very alienating comedian, did a good bit of stand-up nostalgia comedy: "Does anyone remember matter? The world of matter? Physical things? Yeah? Remember when things existed?" |

Don't be shattered, Tony. It happens to everyone. It might look like all RCMBers are churning out novellas like there's no tomorrow (partly because there probably isn't one), but the truth is that creative energy resembles sexual energy in being variable, unreliable and following some secret schedule of its own that doesn't fit with our plans or opportunities. Don't stress about it. Keep making time available for writing, keep noting useful ideas and planning stories, stockpile images and thoughts and experiences, and soon enough you'll be storytelling away. The muse needs a holiday every now and then. He/she/it will return if you keep the door open and the coffee brewing. |

Thanks, Joel. I have to say, doing this artwork (my first in about a decade) has been stiring things up a bit. It's like it's from another part of the brain, and like Tinkerbell I can only feel/think one thing at a time. I've also undergone a big change to my circumstances, and my days are no longer the shape they once were. It's like a house move; it's hard to write when that happens, too. |

Tony, I'm not using those last two images in the book, rest assured. the book's going well. And Tony - judging by the stories I've published of yours (three, including the Ha of Ha one) - and the artwork for Ha of Ha - well, not to put too fine a point on it - you are great at both! Good luck with both. |

Thanks, Des! My problem is I have to wait for these things to come to me. Sitting down and trying never seems to conjure things. Trying to force things makes me look like Doris Stokes. I dunno - maybe I need to go out somewhere on my own for a bit, be 'scared' by something. |

Tony, I'm genuinely surprised some people were daft enough to mistake the last two images for cover shots, given the professionalism and imagination of the first six. It was clear to me, and anyone with half a brain, that you were giving us a glimpse into the creative process. You have revealed yourself as a staggeringly gifted renaissance man, sir. Congratulations. |
