So when are you yanks going to start paying all the rent you owe? You can ask Mel Gibson to deliver it, if he's not too busy slaughtering those dastardly evil colonising English. ;-) Happy 4th of July! |

Just saw this thread. A friend of mine who's in the US at the moment mentioned something I found interesting / weird / disturbing - apparently around this time in labour wards there's a huge number of induced labours, planned caesarian sections and so on because there's a great desire on the part of a certain part of the US demographic to have a 4th of July baby. I'd not heard of this practice before & I must say I find it bloody weird |

Stop trying to blackly stereotype us Americans, John. We rip our babies out for all sorts of holidays.... |

Is it true that American babies born on halloween are orange and already know the word "Bejewelled" which they speak in a deep man's voice? |

Sigh. I went to the US to spend the day with my American relatives, forgetting that each year I vow not to return for the occasion. Sadly, my relatives you see, are republican sock puppets. "Grace" before dinner was the usual "bless this country - the best country in the world" bruhaha. I spent the whole day biting my tongue. Donald at least got to do some water skiing. |

Hey Craig, I don't know if I miss L.A. I miss taking long walks into the hills. And most certainly the planetarium -- have you seen the astronomy show??? But I don't miss the 8$ teas at the STANDARD. I think the reason we didn't meet up, was that we were both worried the other was likely a raving lunatic. ;) |

Raving, not necessarily.... It had occurred to me, but I made no effort, a loss on my part. I live on the outskirts of Hollywood/L.A. - I usually have to clamber over my reclusiveness to brave those environs. I have friends I talk to regularly, who live there, whom I will see a handful of times a year. One, a writing partner on some projects, I haven't seen in over 2 years! Excuses excuses.... Mea culpa. Tell you what, A: next time, I'll buy you a tea at the Standard, and we'll wax rhapsodically on - what else? - Mr. Campbell. (I'm actually going out to The Villas today [see: "The Hills"], picking up mail for another friend - gonna be anywhere near The Grove? Lunch at Farmers maybe...?) Haven't seen the planetarium in years either... sad.... I should be horse-whipped for all the things I regularly don't partake in down here, except, I'd probably enjoy it too much. |

I'll never forget when I booked my ticket to England to meet up with this lot -- when I told friends that I was traveling across the ocean to meet up with "horror writers I'd met online," a plethora of concerns for my life came flooding in... lol funny that it didn't even occur to me at the time that there could be any danger. Though both Zed and GF were worried that Tony might never show up to meet me. ha ha. That trip is such a blur, (journeying from town to town to meet so many comrades I'd only known on the page) but what a lovely adventure. Even Ramsey came out! Traveled into Chester to meet us for lunch and a tour of the local used bookshops... Damn I miss you guys. (Funny thing is - normally I shy away from social interaction - I'm a recluse here in TO.) |
