This has to be one of the best covers for a horror anthology in ages: And the contents isn't bad either, with contributions from more than a couple of members of this board http://www.freewebs.com/mortburypress/ is the place to go. Go on, support Mr Black! |

And I have to say Mr McMahon's is splendid - a story after my own heart. Haven't read any of the others yet. |

The reviews of The Black Book and the Second Black Book in latest Prism are a bit prissy, don't you think? |

Very very prissy, and sadly quite inaccurate, with the kind of uninformed comments one might expect from a non-genre critic who hates genre material. It's very disappointing because it may well turn off people who would enjoy these anthologies. |

There's also a review of another book in the current issue that I feel misses the point entirely. |

He's looking for "an ambitious agent". Like someone looks for a crooked solicitor. |

Limp. Ooo now stop messing about Mr Probert. OK here's a snippet about BB2: "A couple of the stories are little more than nihilistic, sexist machismo." Oh and apparently some of the stories dwell on the 'fetishism of the female body' and include plenty of 'violence blood and mutilation'. I wonder if he means mine? I do hope so. And from BB1: "Those stories that don't work so well rely on the debasement of the human body and pulp schlock." I hope that's me and my big willy story - some people tend to miss the point of that one. (On previewing that last sentence I find it even more hilarious than I had intended. Me & my big willy indeed) Ooh, now, yes, missus! |

I wonder if the reviewer has ever read the Pan Books of Horror, to which these current books seek to pay homage? From the above, I'd guess not. 'fetishism of the female body' and include plenty of 'violence blood and mutilation'. Blimey, he's going to absolutely hate my story from the Third Black Book... :-) |

These anthologies look great. At the risk of appearing gauche, are the story contributions to THE BLACK BOOKS OF HORROR by invite only? Best, Richard |

Thanks, Gary and John. I'm thinking they are invite-only. I might just have to crash that party one of these days! - THE BLACK BOOKS have a really great vibe to them; just enough echoes of the Pan and DARK VOICES anthologies to make me wistful for my misspent youth, but with writers like yourselves in the ToC to make them very contemporary. Best, Richard |
