I can't make it over...way too expensive with flights but I hope you all have a great time! I'm going to miss seeing you all.

If anyone wants my membership for the weekend and it could be done please contact me...address on my web and I'll sort from NZ. Bit last minute but seize the day and all that.

And please all who are going give con reports.

Aww, sorry you can't make it over here for FCon after all Ally. I haven't got as far to travel as you (just around 300 miles) .. but I'm afraid I haven't made it down to Brighton either. This unseasonal mini-heatwave we're having is playing havoc with my health and I hardly slept a wink last night. When my alarm went off early, in time for the long journey, I knew that all I was capable of today was to take some more painkillers and go back to bed. So I'm at home feeling sorry for myself at the moment.

So I hope all of you in Brighton are having a fantastic time this weekend, and please do give us your con reports (btw don't forget there's a FCon report competition going on on the BFS site, run by the new Prism editor, Lou Morgan)

Hope you feel better soon, Caroline!

I'm trying to post a photo of where I'll be today (we are 12 hours ahead) ....planting trees on the land we just bought near Mount Holdsworth. We've been in pioneer mood for months. No water supply up there and sorting it out etc....

Thanks, Ally. See if this does the trick with your pic ...

Looks beautiful. I bet it's not as warm as it is here today though! I know now I was right to decide not to go to Brighton - I'd have been spark out with heatstroke by now.

Thank you, Caroline!

That is home now. Four hours to plant three trees with a crowbar (old river bed with boulders) and a shovel.

18 degrees here...felt warm but really early April if you think of it in a seasonal way. In the summer it will be anything from 26-38 in the Wairarapa.

Will be planting fruit trees next year. :.).

Good to hear! Des. Just hope that winter for you is better than last year. In NZ we had our coldest for a very long time. Snow in the Wairarapa...not seen for many, many years.

Yesterday I went to the beach to swim and sunbathe. Got up reasonably early today to do the same. I've never seen the beach this crowded. Tomorrow will be even better, with all the children in school and their parents back to work.

Just back from Fantasycon - had a great time - huge thanks to gcw & Soozy who gave us a lift there and back, thus saving me from driving to FCon for the first time in many years.
Met loads of folk, bought lots of books, went to one panel! Fantasycon spoils to be photographed and displayed later, and anyone with a Facebook account will be able to see the variety of pictures gcw took some time this week.

Probably going to have to be Ghosts Know, Lincoln! I paused reading Ramsey's stuff after Grin of the Dark as it was just so good that I though he'd never top it, or indeed even equal it. Then, back in August I realised that was a daft way to think so I read Thieving Fear, Creatures of the Pool, Seven Days of Cain and Just Behind You, all one after the other.
And I needn't have worried!

Started reading it on the train coming back from the Con, Mick! Couldn't put it down either. A cracking good read. Nice to see Ramsey bringing Manchester back to weird life again too.

I had a great time at FantasyCon, and it was a real pleasure to meet many of the people from the RCMB in person. I know there was some unpleasant BFS fallout from the awards, but that shouldn't distract from the sterling job Paul Kane and Marie O'Regan (and their many helpers) did with the Con itself.

My only regret was having to miss Teatro Proberto's BLOOD ON SATAN'S CLAW, but at least I got to see the 'rerun' of CORRUPTION, which was terrific.

I watched the Awards on YouTube and I have to say that your off-script riffing was most welcome, Pete.

That's kind of you, Gary. I'm glad to say, though, that I wasn't the only presenter to go off-book -- because the overly-controlled ceremony certainly needed it -- and the fabulously foul-mouthed Sarah Pinborough did a superb job of injecting some life and personality into what could otherwise have been dry as fucking dust.

Indeed. The field is full of wits and raconteurs. Let them off the leash, for goodness sake.

Likewise, good to meet you, Pete. Finished Rumours of the Marvellous last night, and thoroughly enjoyed it. Last of the Invisible Kings and the still very moving Aviatrix being the standouts for me.

Gary and John - Great to meet you guys too (and Simon B and John & Kate and Ray Russell, and to re-meet Joel after 18[!]years). And of course all my old mates who aren't on this board.

The only drawback to being a GoH -- which was otherwise lovely and a great honour -- was that I couldn't do what I usually like most at Cons; hang about in the bar chatting with everybody. I did get to spend some quality eating/drinking time with the Landlord and family, which was the pleasure it always is -- but I look forward to raising a few pints with the rest of you in 2013!

Just watched some of the footage, on YouTube, looks like it was a great time!
Sarah Pinborough came across very well as MC - the life of the party, I suspect?
Must be nice spending time with so many like minded people, members of the same 'tribe'.

It was great to meet you Pete (and your comments about the book trailer lifted me for the rest of the day!) and I agree about the ceremony - you & Sarah kept it alive.

Mark, so sorry! Didn't realise you posted here or I would have included you in my list of fab-RCMBers I got to meet in person. Very nice to meet you too -- and thanks again for the great trailer.
