"On Blogger, my essay on character actor Lee Van Cleef’s film noir roles far outpaced everything else I posted there in the 2011 (328). Two other pieces from 2011 that were popular were my critique of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire (184) and my annual promise to not watch the Oscars (112) (which received a large number of thumbs down when I posted the link in the comments on the San Francisco Chronicle's SFGate—what d'ya say we do that again!?)"

More stuff about online writing (including a nod to you folks, here)

Thanks for reading and hope you're all well!

Ha! I see you're a "Simon's Cat" fan too, Thomas! I came across those animations on YouTube a little while ago, and I think they're hilarious. Although they seem simplistically drawn (though I bet there's a heck of a lot of work goes in to making one), his ability to portray real cat behaviour and to give that cat so much expression is amazing.

As to the issue of using various online tools for marketing as per your blogpost, the part of me that's a business management lecturer finds that quite fascinating. You guys (I don't include myself as I'm not a writer) spend a lot of time building websites, writing blogs, chatting on message boards, Facebook, Twitter, etc - and I guess the question is, does it pay off in marketing terms? (or in networking terms, with networking being a kind of marketing within the small presses anyway?). Hmmm ... interesting ... That would make a really good Masters dissertation topic for someone ...

Thanks, Caroline! "Simon's Cat" owes a lot to cartoons like "Peanuts." Its simplicity works in its favor. And I agree the animator captures their behavior extraordinarily well, down to the tail twitch; also their essential goofiness and the feeling *we* have that you can never really take your eyes off of them. They're always "up to something."

A study of online marketing would be revealing and I'm sure some academic somewhere is doing one right now. Whether an outlier such as myself would fit into the study is doubtful because of the nature of what I'm providing--original entertainment--versus someone promoting their Perfect Widget ("Increases gas mileage! Cures death!")or an aggregator of Lady Gaga gossip. I had over 1,000 views last week, but suspect it was due to glitch created by the videos I posted in that article.
