I wonder if anyone here can help with this? I was talking horror with a friend yesterday and was reminded of a novel I read about years ago but couldn't remember the author or title.

I was a teenager at the time, so it must have come out in the 90's and my recollection of the synopsis is pretty hazy. From what I recall it was about a man who moves into a house by a cemetery and starts receiving notes telling him to leave offerings at one of the graves - initially small, inoffensive things but eventually escalating to dead animals and finally human sacrifice. If he disobeyed the notes something bad would happen, but I can't remember what.

I never actually read it, but the plot always fascinated me so every so often over the years I'd remember it and think "I must find out what that was."
