Next week sees the Tartarus Press publication of Black Horse and Other Strange Stories by Jason A. Wyckoff:

http://tartaruspress.com/blackhorse.htm

Jason is a new American author, writing in the tradition of the spooky/strange story, although his work is very contemporary. This is his first ever venture into print, and (of course) I can recommend it!

I had a read through the blurb and thought 'this sounds interesting', so I went to buy it but the PayPal button didn't seem to do anything. I tried a different book and in that instance the PayPal website opened ok...

Hi Mick,
That's very odd, and rather annoying. I've had a number of paypal orders come through fine, but you're the second person to mention that it wouldn't work for them... I'll see what I can find out.

Mick singlehandedly keeps the UK independent presses alive. God bless him. We should have him stuffed. The BFS Awards should be modelled after him. Real tall statues.

Just received my purchased copy of 'BLACK HORSE and Other Strange Stories' by Jason A. Wyckoff - it looks wonderful.

{Re 'Black Horse': I've banked with Lloyds since I was a teenager in the early 60s} :-)

So that's a 'yes' then!

My copy turned up this morning too - hurrah. That brings my Tartarus tally to twelve books.

...and in case anyone's dithering over this collection, one story is available in .PDF format from the page linked to in the first message in the thread.

In my current review of BLACK HORSE, I accidentally mentioneed Tartarus in the same sentence as Homer's ILIAD. Amazingly, when I wrote that sentence I had no idea that Tartarus is actually mentioned in in the Iliad.
Wikipedia: "In The Iliad (c. 700), Zeus asserts that "Tartarus is "as far beneath Hades as heaven is high above the earth.""

BTW, I already feel confident that Jason A. Wyckoff is a stunning new writer with whose work all horror and weird fiction lovers should become acquainted.
