I've never really delved into the (presumably) many horror-related newsgroups and don't know where to start. Which ones do you people recommend?

Shocklines (http://shocklinesforum.yuku.com/) is interesting but the moderator has a tendency to delete whole threads if insults start flying. On the other hand, unmoderated groups attract trolls.

Yeah. I hate trolls.

I see myself as more a humetroll. As Chetwynd-Hayes would see it.

Whoops! Posted before I meant to. There are these Yahoo groups:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/All_Hallows/?yguid=48757614

and

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/horrabin_hall/?yguid=48757614

Both do their best to fend off trolls.

Is this trollesque?

http://surrealartforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=3571&highlight=

Pointing out that a man's art is similar to the poster for MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH?

I wouldn't say that was trolling! I'd have had the same thought as you.

It's not a new artistic device, is it? Who was that painter who made faces out of vegetables? And I recall a cover of a Hitchcock antho whose cover bore Hitch's face rendered in people.

This is a very friendly and most ingenious type of discussion forum, with social groups and sophisticated technical facilities:
http://www.ligotti.net/

I've been very happy there since 2005 and it deals with all matters Horror (not only Ligotti).

Here's another one: the usenet group alt.horror.cthulhu which I sometimes check, even if I should have outgrown cthulhoid fiction by now! If you don't know what usenet is, don't worry, you can also access this group via groups.google.com

I recently read this so very true quote on dealing with trolls:

"Never mud-wrestle with a pig: you get all dirty and the pig likes it."
