Are there any Horror stories out there set on board this ship? Seems like a wasted opportunity. This may seem in bad taste given the current climate of remembrance of those who perished but there are plenty of genre tales set during both world wars.

Thanks to 'Fortean Times', again, I happen to know the very real supernatural horror story behind the sinking of the Titanic.

This link gives a useful summary: http://www.castleofspirits.com/mummycurse.html

Truth is always stranger than fiction, Sean!

Robert Serling (brother of Rod) wrote a novel called Something's Alive on the Titanic; I read it a decade or so ago, and thought it was pretty good. More of a supernatural thriller than Titanic history lesson, but it kept me turning the pages, and at no point did I feel like hurling it against the wall (which wasn't a given, what with that title not sounding terribly promising). Worth hunting down, and probably available for a couple of dollars/pounds online at ABE.

The novel "Carpathia" by Matt Forbeck (Angry Robot) tells about a ship of vampires "rescuing" the Titanic's survivors. It's just skimming the theme since the "Unsinkable" is soon forgotten after a few beginning chapters, so it's not exactly what's meant in the thread, just an approximation. It's not heavenly reading but fun.

Surprised no enterprising soul thought of putting together an anthology of Titanic ghost stories as part of the anniversary cash-in rush. Of course, it's passed now, so I guess they've missed the boat with that one.

(with apologies)

It's just a bit too obvious, using a doomed ship that is going to crash and drown as a setting for a weird story. Setting it in the everyday world has the same effect, but more subtly.

Barbara Hambly's "Sunrise on Running Water" (which appeared in DARK DELICACIES II: FEAR, still in print), is set on the Titanic.

Beryl Bainbridges book was a bit weird, but also sort of dull.
Maybe it should be set in limbo, with the crew and passengers just floating round on it forever.

Thanks folks! Barbara's suggestion 'Something's Alive on the Titanic' sounds great. Searching online now...
