A new story from Frances Oliver – like wow. And Mark Samuels making his ATP debut (I think). This looks fantastic.

There's a new novel from Frances Oliver coming soon, too, Joel. Good stuff. Shades of Picnic at Hanging Rock.

As my contribution to this notable thread I would like to point out the name Sucksmith, in the hope of illiciting a humourous response.

I believe it is customary to add one of these...

What? Michael Cox as in THE MEANING OF NIGHT Michael Cox?!

Have to say, I'm especially pleased to be included because I didn't think my piece would fit and was possibly a little too fantasy. I am very happy.

Yes, Michael Cox as in THE MEANING OF NIGHT, THE OXFORD BOOK OF ENGLISH GHOST STORIES, THE OXFORD BOOK OF VICTORIAN GHOST STORIES, M.R. JAMES AND INFORMAL PORTRAIT, former commissioning editor at OUP, and the 'brain' behind the old Equation Thriller series.

He told us that he'd always wanted to write a story as a homage to M. R. J., and his contribution to SHADES OF DARKNESS, titled 'In Vitro' is the result.

Albie, for years I assumed the H.P. Sucksmith collection that was published in the 1990s was a volume of Lovecraft parodies. But that's because I'm a bad person. Very, very bad indeed.

Ian seems like a lovely bloke; I've enjoyed corresponding with him over the last year or so, and have really liked the stories of his I've read thus far. In one message he said how much he'd enjoyed my story 'Northwest Passage', and was pleased to see the quote from the Stan Rogers song of the same name I used in it; turns out Stan, a great Canadian singer who died tragically young in an airplane fire, is a first cousin (I think it is) of Ian's dad. Small world. . . .

'Archangel' is another promising title. There's a great early Scott Walker song with that title.

Well, if someone can offer 'Archway', this is a story called 'The Arch' that the Writer's Group where I live wrote together in the last few weeks:

Easy peasy, Albs. I simply removed the cussing and gave the parrot a silver claw. All made sense after that.

Oh hang on, that's a different story . . .
