Yes indeed, in my opinion one of the best looking modern Ash-Tree covers.

I'll let Christopher post the TOC, but credit where it's due: the cover art is by Jason Zerrillo, and Jason Van Hollander did the post-production work, as it were.

Thanks, Christopher. So the book is a weird guide to the UK! Starting with the Midlands, of course. This looks incredible.

Nothing set in Northern Ireland?

Sounds intriguing, certainly.

Without Northern Ireland, it would have to a guide to Great Britain, wouldn't it? As opposed to the UK?

The orange cover is presumably intended to compensate.

Joel: The cover's going to be more red in real life, with the white lettering and blue on the spine. Red, white, and blue: clever, eh?

Ally: The book went to press last week, and should be available in early September.

It needs a Northern Ireland story in it, then. The thin red lines in the current Union Flag represent St Patrick's Cross.

Although in fairness, the flag for Great Britain is still red, white and blue.

Are all the stories contemporary? Or are some set in past eras?

Gary, that's true, but the stories don't systematically cover every region of the UK. For example, there are four stories from the South of England (including one from London, the only city cited in the contents list) but only one from the North of England.

And they do ghosts differently in Ireland. The supernatural doesn't recognise political borders, but it recognises natural ones (like coastlines). Ghosts can't swim.

(Note to self: shut up.)

The stories are all set in the present day, but by their nature many of them draw on past events. The cover gives a clue about the historical inspiration for one of the stories. (And no, it's not Big Ben, and yes, I know that Big Ben isn't the proper name of the Clock Tower, but why fight decades of colloquial usage.)

No, the collection doesn't cover the whole of the country. But Paul's hoping to do further volumes along these lines. And his story in SHADES OF DARKNESS also has a similar theme, and is set in Cornwall.

>>>Gary, that's true, but the stories don't systematically cover every region of the UK.

I hear what you're saying, Joel, but with a Scottish and Welsh tale in there, then Northern Ireland looked like a conspicuous absence. And the original point was about the difference between UK and GB. If UK isn't used on the book, all's cool.

I have to say this looks a lot of fun. I loved 'After Shocks' and I'm a big fan of Paul's work in general. The cover is very eye-catching indeed. Yet another one to keep me up past 2am.
