I enjoyed the first the first time I saw it, but not the second time; I LOVED the second film but have only seen it once; two weeks ago me and my youngest watched number 3 on the projector and were so frightened we nearly turned it off. It got slightly less scary by the end but what a great little ghost train of a film it was. For maybe the first time in my life with a film I put a blanket over my face. It also contains perhaps the best 'sheet ghost' I've seen in a film. Some great, terrifying, terrifying scenes in this one - and so much dread. I think it's a Jamesian film, too, in it's way.

Thing is - I've noticed not many horror writers like the films at all. Is ordinary 'phenomena' in horror a bit dull for some? (that said, by the end of P3, it does feel like there's a much larger, scarier picture at the edges. Yes - 4 is due out soon).

I watched number 3 recently, too, and thought it was the best of the bunch by far. The sheet ghost scene was excellent and I loved those final scenes. It would be nice to leave the series there, actually, but I expect since they're cheap to make and very profitable they'll keep knocking them out.

Yes, I thought it would have been good to end there, too. God, those old ladies....>shivers<
It was a Polanski movie, at least in ideas, for me, if not in treatment.

Just spotted the trailer for part 4, looks like it'll be out this Hallowe'en.

Strange. I thought the first one was okay for what it was, but thought the second was dismal and entirely devoid of tension or scares. The third was decent, but as usual with these films I find myself wishing that they weren't constrained by the 'found footage' style.

It seems there's a Director's Cut of part 3 - does anyone know if this version is an improvement or should I not bother with it?
I haven't seen the film at all yet, you see, so I'm wondering which one to go for...
