Oh, Thomas, you've put that so well. I'm a long-term illness "survivor" (they tell me the word "sufferer" is too negative) - ME/chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia, polymyalgia rheumatica, Sjogren's syndrome (I'm collecting syndromes! lol) - so I can feel your pain and exhaustion. But at least you have medics who are on the case (in my case, they kept telling me there was nothing wrong with me for so many years). It sounds to me like you've done the right thing - taking time out, before easing yourself gently back into things. It also sounds like you're on the mend as you're getting back into those things again - so that's excellent news! I could send you loads of thoughts - "keep strong", "think positive", "be kind to yourself", "take it easy", etc. They're all a bit corny, but they're also very true. Take care - you'll beat this thing! |

Hi Caroline: Thanks for your kind words. However, my docs haven't been very good at all. I had to fire my first doc for neglect; the second over a language barrier; and the third went on vacation. I've had to do my own diagnosing, never a good idea. The whole system is still dithering about after 2.5 months. Take care! |

"I've had to do my own diagnosing" That's sounds pretty much the same as it is over here in the UK. It's only through doing my own internet research/diagnosing, and then persuading my docs to investigate things further, that I've been able to find out what's going on too. The US seems to be way ahead of the UK in terms of research into, and treatment of, these kinds of illnesses - but that's fine as long as you can get a good doc in the States. Sounds like you drew the short straw - on more than one occasion. Remember, too, things like this are notoriously difficult to diagnose. I'm sure you'll have been going through test after test to rule things out? Keep on pushing for answers. It was only when I got my first diagnosis (the others have been coming along at an alarming rate since then) that I was able to take control and start to live my life again. |
