Now I really need to watch this I START COUNTING... Did you deliberatly cheer yourself up with The Titfield Thunderbolt before watching I START COUNTING...? To create a greater plummet? Or do you always watch horror before bed so you can have all manner of mutilation dreams? Because I do. OH! THE MUTILATIONS! |

Did you deliberatly cheer yourself up with The Titfield Thunderbolt before watching I START COUNTING...? To create a greater plummet? Sort of, Albs - I felt so cosily cheered up after THUNDERBOLT that I had to watch something more downbeat, so I thought a coming-of-age/serial killer drama to be just the thing! |

Gadzooks! (And when was the last time you read THAT on a message board posting) I have never heard of I START COUNTING, despite the fact it seems to feature (breath) Jenny Agutter! Director David Greene did that rather odd version of The Shuttered Room I believe, the opening sequence of which gave very small Probert some awful nightmares. My double bill last night was LAST YEAR IN MARIENBAD paired with John Brahm's THE UNDYING MONSTER (as part of my Fox horrors boxset - I'm going to watch the two Laird Cregars together) |

it seems to feature (breath) Jenny Agutter! It does indeed - and very good she is in it too. Unfortunately to the best of my knowledge I think the film has only been on TV once, in the early to mid 'eighties, and that was the last (and only) time I'd seen it up until last night. The copy I have was taken from a VHS tape so isn't brilliant, but it's currently the only way it'll be seen as it's unavailable on DVD (or indeed, VHS) anywhere, as far as I'm aware. |

...oh, and both THE LODGER and HANGOVER SQUARE are excellent, but you probably already know that! |

Do you know I didn't really until I read the latest Video Watchdog which has such a brilliant article on those pictures that it convinced me to shell out for that nice little boxset there and then. The latest VW was also responsible for me buying The HP Lovecraft Collection - which is a set of 4 DVDs of short movie adaptations of HPL stories amongst other things. Quite passable fun. And a weird DVD of a 'collage' of old silent Italian movies called 'Diva Dolorosa' which shows them in all their 'heavily bosomed luridly tinted glory'. I can't wait |

Those HPL ones are pretty good; I've been picking them up as they've been released. VW is a very good magazine although I only see it once in a while. I should subscribe, I guess! |

I watched The Music of Erich Zann last night - it felt lke a BBC film from the 70s (in a good way, naturally). I've had a subscription to VW for years. It's the only film-related magazine I get regularly. And I've bought it from issue 1. |

John, I've been raving about Lurker Films for some time. You'll love the three versions of 'Pickman's Model', and I venture to suggest the Italian version will meet with your especial approval. |

There are several, but they're only, in the main, illegally selling vhs 'rips', although one common version available supposedly was taken from a Turkish cable broadcast, complete with ten second loss of signal in the middle! |

Like Joel, I've been collecting the HPL Collection DVDs as they're released. My favourite is still Volume 3, which includes the excellent OUT OF MIND. There's a fifth volume now, STRANGE AEONS, including 'The Thing on the Doorstep'. |

Forgot to mention, for those who enjoy such things: there is a second 'Fox horror Classics' box set on the way, including the following films: DRAGONWYCK CHANDU THE MAGICIAN DR. RENAULT'S SECRET I don't think I've seen any of these, although I've heard of CHANDU... |
