One of their journalists claim the readership demographic is mostly as follows:- 1) Male 2) In his 40s or 50s 3) Considers he has a catholic taste in music 4) Still buys CDs 5) Still has his vinyl collection 6) Has at least one album in more than one format (vinyl, CD and remastered download) 7) Can't be doing with anything in the iTunes Top 10 singles 8) Only goes to gigs once or twice a year 9) Fondly remembers when TOTP was on every Thursday 10) Fast forwards over a lot of the indie stuff on 'Later..with Jools Holland' 11) Thinks that Glastonbury is the highlight of the music calendar, but has bever been Out of those eleven items eight apply to me... The ones that don't are 8 (more than that!), 9 (I remember but I don't care) and 10 (I like a lot of the so-called 'indie' stuff on there)... | ||

Eight apply to me also, Mick. The ones that don't are 8 (lots more!), 10 (I just fast-forward over Gollum) and 11 (the highlight of the music calendar is wherever and whenever Tindersticks are playing). | ||

The word 'catholic' (with a small c) means covering all aspects, universal. I, myself, prefer to be both catholic and eclectic in my music tastes. | ||

No one really has "catholic" tastes in music. There's one kind of music everyone hates, I don't care who they are or what they say... no, I don't have one in mind; I just mean, there is, to everyone, at least a single type of music they detest.... What's yours, Des?... | ||

Well there are certain songs I do enjoy within Music of the Shows or Country & Western, but fundamentally I dislike those two music genres more than others. | ||

Des I can't believe you're not a fan of showtunes! C&W I can understand, although I know the words to all the songs of Johnny Cash as my mum isa huge fan and it's all I heard when I was little. Imagine if you will a 5 year old singing 'Ring of Fire'. I have always figured Mr Lewis as a man of fine musical taste ever since, on the late lamented TTA board he echoed my sentiments as regards the popular beat combo 'Girls Aloud'. At the time I thought I was the only one over 12 who actually liked any of their songs. Personally I think my tastes are quite catholic. There is no particular sub-genre of music I won't entertain. I don't think. | ||

I think there's a major distinction between the glitter and tassels of C&W, and actual country music. I'd call Cash country rather than C&W. I dislike most country & western but love a fair few country singers and bands (not least, the wonderful Mary Gauthier and the likes of Calexico). I lurve country blues too, although I'd say Gauthier probably sits in that box too. As for disliking any type of music, the only form I'd (almost) dismiss out of hand is the nonsense that exudes from the rap & hip-hop stables. But even then I thoroughly enjoyed seeing Scoopy Scoopy Dog Dog at Live8. "Woss ma motherfuckin' name?" Anyone see "Jay-Z" 'singing' Wonderwall at Glastonbury in some sort of response to Noel Gallagher's comments about hip-hop? Bugger couldn't hit a single note, as he's not used to singing but talking. Yo. Unless it was a huge joke and he's really a tenor for the New York Opera. | ||

the one's that don't apply to me are 2,8 (at least 40 a year for the last few years- great when you don't need to pay to get in),10 (I watch it for the rock stuff, I only fast dforward if someone starts to bore me), 11 - Download is the highlight of the musical year and I've been 5 times - see additional note for number 8. | ||
