I saw Patrick Moore perform as the guest with the Ipswich Hospital Band a few years ago. Sir Patrick acted as compere, stand-up comedian (he was very funny) and showed himself to be the Hendrix of the xylophone. He was a warm, affable presence and the man who sparked my own interest in the wonder and strangeness of the universe when he appeared on TV in my childhood. Another flawed but precious little fragment of our lives chipped away... Cheers Terry |

He lived a very rich and varied life and was a real character. Plus which, he was one of the last people who could get away with wearing a monocle... |

They really don't make them like this any more. I'll miss him a lot. His programme was a huge influence on the direction of my life. His programme made awe of the Universe accessible to everyone. He once played the piano in a duet with Einstein, who was on the violin. |

I was seriously gutted when I heard this... one of those constant heroes in my life I just assumed would always be there. Shame he never got to see men walk on Mars. A lovely man. One of a kind. |
