That is, did anyone see it...?

Here's the full review from Entertainment Weekly (8/15/08) by one Chris Willman, who gave it a rating of "D" (as in, A, B, C, D, F):

"Clive Barker is raising hell online, urging fans to lobby Lionsgate to give his latest production a major release instead of the embarrassed send-off it's getting in discount theaters. We hate to side with the big bad studio on this, but Train - despite a great title - really does stink like month-old human flesh. [Vinnie] Jones is a terrifically imposting villain as he slays and flays late-night subway commuters - but the gorefest shifts from a suspenseful '80's slasher template to laughable fantasy/conspiracy mythology, culminating in a finale that redefines train wreck." End quote.

Oh dear.

One thing though, it's been a long time since I read the story, but isn't the 'fantasy/conspiracy mythology' key to that?

Cleese has slowly stripped himself of all comedic value over the last few decades...

Yes, look at him, sitting in his box. Eating. Huh! What's funny about that?
Palin, of course still has it, see? With his umbrella.

Zed, was that post in the wrong thread or is it a surreal caption to the picture above?

It was the man in the box. If you stare at the picture long enough...he looks up and whispers your name.

too much time on my hands you see.

Watched THE MIDNIGHT MEAT TRAIN yesterday. Not great but fun in part; the cgi gore is rubbish, and overall it's a bit silly, but (and I NEVER thought I'd say this) the casting of Vinny Jones is excellent, mainly because he naturally looks quite threatening anyway, and possibly partly because he's mute for almost the whole film.
Plus, as noted some time back on this board, I have a liking for any fiction based around trains, particularly subway/underground trains.
Wonder what that says about me.

Vinny Jones worked, but an 'unknown' actor for this role would have been more effective I thought. Has anyone read the short graphic novel of this- it was a story in the excellent Tapping the Vein series- and there Mahogany is this silent, giant bald man- I can't read the story without having that image of the subway killer imprinted in my mind, even after the film version.

Caught this the other night at a friends house. Absolutely dreadful. The first twenty minutes showed some atmospheric promise, then Vinny Jones and the bad CG gore cropped up and the whole thing became utterly laughable. They also cut out the whole mythology behind the lurkers in the sewers, stripping the story of any intelligence that the original may have had.

I'm starting to worry about Barker's quality control if he thinks that this is a good effort (and thought that Mr B Gone was worth releasing).

John - yes, it's fucking awful. Vinnie Jones is not imposing (well, I might change my mind if I bumped into him), because the director has got him snarling at the camera all the time, when all Vinnie Jones has to do is be Vinnie Jones.
