It's only about a month before FantasyCon 2008 is upon us, so I've decided to start a series of posts that relate to FantasyCon, both past and present.

If anyone who plans to attend wants to send a few words to me via the address below, feel free to do so.

Its up to you if you choose to promote a book that you are launching, or the reasons why you plan to attend, or you may choose to share a past experience... I've started the ball rolling with a nod back to the screening of John Skipp's trailer for Jake's Wake at 2006's 'ShortFilm Showcase' and combined it with the press release for the forthcoming paperback of the novel version Skipp co-wrote with Cody Goodfellow.

Ally - there are a few main slots for reading as posted on the site, however we have extra rooms that have been set aside for this purpose, which are bookable through Paul and/or Marie.

I hope that helps.

See you all soon!

I can remember when they couldn't write horror stories because they found it too scary. They would cower behind cushions, pushing a key at a time, hoping they didn't catch too much of the story in one go.

Zed would ask me to spell "evisceration" for him in weekly increments. He was that frightened of seeing the word whole.

They don't actually write any of their stories at all. Zed's stories are the work of a local Sunderland parish priest with a penchance for Newcastle Brown and welly throwing...used to be welly tossing...but you know...and Simon's work is actually the mental construct of a burgeoning serial killer given vent via the pen of a little old lady who masquerades as Lolly Pop Lady.

Charlatans, both of them.

Zed couldn't have written those stories because Zippy of bungalow gives him nightmares. And as for Simon, he can't write...I mean literally...he's got no hands...just two huge opposable thumbs for god knows what!

Even Ramsey himself would email me to ask what colour blood REALLY was.
If you've ever read his early short story "What's that yellow patch on my wife's duvet?" then you'll thank me for correcting him.

Zed is so scared of horror that he refuses to ever die in case he sees a ghost. I've seen the laboratory he keeps above a tanning boutique. I'm not so sure having the body of a goose would suit him.

Sir Zippy of Bungalow. HAHAH. Did they live in a bungalow?

Simon was so scared of horror that he could only ever write with a sparkly crayon while at children's parties, to keep from getting jittery.

The whole photographic principle unnerves him. As a child his parents would draw on pieces of paper and pretend they were photographs. For years he thought he saw too much.

GCW has the kind of radical just-beyond-stubble you associate with Che Guevara or Chaz Brenchley. Simon is not only clean-shaven, but looks like he hasn't started shaving yet. He had trouble getting served at the bar, and even once he'd produced ID the barman asked him if he was intending to buy alcohol for Fran.

I know that you made that joke out of fear of Mick The Mutilator.

He's in the room with you right now, isn't he? Smiling, waggling his fingers and mutilating the very air itself.

What does mutilated air look like? Smell like?
Is he breathing it in for his own pleasure?
