I'm unfamiliar with this (as with most Heinlein). Sounds pretty good, like P.K. Dick... anyone ever read this?...

I haven't read this, but if Alex Proyas is directing, it might be worth keeping an eye on. I didn't care much for I, ROBOT but I thought DARK CITY was very good.

I read this many years back, a couple of times. I really enjoyed it at the time, although the only image that springs to mind from the novel was a scene where the protagonist notices that whilst he's in his car, he can only see the world he knows through the glass of the car's windows. If he winds them down he just sees a swirling mist...

Was keifer Sutherland miscast in Dark City? he was the one weak spot in the film for me. Otherwise, as per Zed, I thought this was a true masterpiece.

I was given a good piece of advice before watching DARK CITY which was to keep the sound turned down for Sutherland's opening narration - inserted during postproduction at the behest of the financiers.

I'm not sure if it's a masterpiece or not, but I can say that I was deeply affected by it and found myself dreaming about it for many a night. I remember getting a lot of stick for liking it back then - people were divided about it (some folk saw it as a pretentious rip-off of METROPOLIS, while others just didn't seem to get it at all).

It was one of the first DVDs I bought, way back when they were still pretty much a novelty. As John pointed out, a new edition has just been released.

Tony, if you're out there: the DVD has an audiocommentary with your mate Ebert!

There was talk of a new Quatermass film (possibly a remake of QUATERMASS AND THE PIT) with Proyas directing, but nothing seems to have come of it yet...

New Quatermass with Proyas?!?

Again, the tingling, the stiffening, the shortness-of-breath-ining....

Surely the horned demon at the end of QUATERMASS AND THE PIT can't be bettered. Well, it IS a bit cross-eyed . . .

If they remake QUATERMASS they'll only mess it up.

Possibly, but it really depends on the people involved, I think. I would love to see a new QUATERMASS film directed by someone like Del Toro, for instance.

You know, Quatermass and the Pit is one of the few films I'd actually like to see remade. I love the original, but think there's huge scope to build on the ideas.

I'd also give my left testicale to see a new and ambitious Quatermass TV series. There's currently a high-profile Survivors remake underway, so why not?

What would you give your right testicle to see?
Wasn't there a new Quatermass telly thingy a year or two ago?

I'd give nothing to my right testicle to see. It has no eyes. Ears, but no eyes.
And a tiny mouth. Just for screaming purposes.

There was, and it was live. It was the original story (of "The Quatermass Experiment") tweaked around and updated a bit.

The one with Jason Flemyng as Quatermass, and David Tennant and Mark Gatiss? I have that one on DVD - it's not bad, but not quite up to the standard of the earlier adaptations, I feel.

I also liked the '70s Quatermass with John Mills, although I seem to be in the minority there.
