I'm sure Liz Dobriskie would have won a medal in todays 1500m if she had not been told previously by interviewers on TV that she was better than she thought she was. She should have run her own 'innocent' race and won a medal.

The Taekwondo judges seemed to be way off in many of the fights. Two of Taiwan's best fighters, both of whom won gold in the previous games in Athens, only took bronze this time. Watching their matches, it was clear that some of the kicks just weren't being counted - at one point, after at least four successful head-kicks, the ref went so far as to stop the match - he awarded the Taiwanese fighter 2 points, in spite of the judges. It was obvious he could see something was askew (some are saying China weren't too happy about Taiwan taking home gold in their games... who knows).

Their was a fair bit of drama and heartbreak in the event this time - yesterday, the Cuban fighter (+80kg section) was so pissed off for being disqualified, he attacked the ref. It was farcical.

The most moving part of the whole games for me was the way Taiwan's Su Li-wen refused to give up despite a serious injury to her knee. She basically hopped on one leg through the entirety of the final match, and, amazingly, actually scored with some head-kicks before collapsing to the floor in agony each time. She just wouldn't give up, and kept fighting all the way to the end, finally losing the match in a 'sudden death' standoff by just one point, against a physically fit opponent. That meant more to me than a gold medal. Even the Chinese are hailing her as being the embodiment of the 'Olympic spirit'.

"Their" should be "there," of course. Dear me - I really shouldn't try to type anything first thing in the morning after taking my meds...
