Season four, just started. Anyone watching it? Loving every lovingly-detailed 1950's pastel-drenched American South-second so far. Freaks, and horror, in abundance. And watching Jessica Lange channel David Bowie to perform "Life on Mars"... that was freak show enough. |

Am I the only one watching this season? It's lush, it's "freaky" indeed, it's captivating... but also extremely weird, even (dare I say?) subtle, at least compared to other seasons. There's a host of influences, but suddenly it occurred to me... I do believe this season is actually Oates-ian! At least, if Joyce Carol Oates were to write for TV, this would be what would've come out of her typewriter... from my still limited vantage (it's hard to be more than that, she's written so much!) It was just announced today that Jessica Lange was nominated for Best Actress for this season, Golden Globes; Kathy Bates for Best Supporting-Actress. Well-deserved both! |

I gave up on this series, sadly. I just couldn't get into it at all. The clown was the only thing holding my interest for the first few episodes and once that mystery was revealed I couldn't work up any more enthusiasm for it. |
