Just what we need to brighten up our Friday: there's something really quite chilling about this murder ballad from 1927.

Shelton was a barber by occupation: he recorded a number of folk songs for Victor Records in '27, of which four (including this one) have survived. He recorded some more tracks for Columbia Records the following year, but they haven't survived.

Also, is it just me, or does Shelton bear a passing resemblance to H.P. Lovecraft?
