Wow, how quickly things become a John Wyndham novel, a Quatermass series.
Just been to asda for some dog food and so much stuff is off the shelves. We're not meant to gather publicly but here we are. An old woman presses her fingers to her temples and tells me she feels we're in another world. My son has been so anxious he got into bed with us last night. He's 25. I get a temperature in the night and am convinced I have the virus. I feel totally ok, happier than when I was DREADING catching the disease. We are hearing it's mostly gone from China and that because of their lockdown pollution has sank to a record low. People, shopping aside, are more companion able and connected than they have been in years. People are getting creative. It feels like we're waking up. I think I like it.

Gets a bit more unreal every day. I see kindness all over, and carelessness. I get to tell a singer I like how much I loved one of his albums because he is playing live on the net from his living room and he is genuinely touched. This would never have happened before. The world has changed. I watch one of the recent films that have been put online prematurely and two lines stick out, "They killed my father for a tin of peaches", "We waited for the day when the world would go back to normal, but it never came."
For the record, I do not have the virus. I am presuming nobody else here has.

Made everybody a brunch kind of thing. Mushrooms, quorn bacon, egg. Yesterday we realised the place that makes quorn is really near us, near the nuclear power station. Got radio Scala on. Mayo sounds grim underneath, like someone dancing at gunpoint. Doing well though.

The thing is, even if you don't have the virus (and you can't know unless you're actually tested) your life is still affected by it. It's derailed the lives of many people I know.

But yes, find the positives in things that, as you say, would never have happened otherwise.

And pollution down! And population sort of shrinking! It's terrifyingly almost something we needed. :-( I was thinking gaian stuff, my son thinks governmentally sanctioned cull.

We think our son's girlfriend had it, she's ok now, and the husband and daughter of a friend. I think of them as lucky somehow, their problem is tangible if that makes sense. Are you ok?

Shopping today, a guy at the coop door letting only one person at a time, though there were about three inside. It feels weird in there. Who would have thought shop staff would have become heroisised?
And walking the dogs. I find it hard to keep the two metre rule. It feels rude, and the sense of not being rude feels more ingrained than that of survival. But then we are are more cheerful now, waving and smiling at strangers in a way we never would have before.

I don't feel the rule is rude at all, or offended when people skirt by me, I feel it's showing respect to everyone. Yeah, people are waving to each other and saying hello even when they don't know each other, even in the middle of the city.

Yes, it's got easier. Quite nice. Although the walk around the huge rolling ex coal heap nature reserve felt like a huge hide and seek with strangers what with people leaping into bushes and gates at the sight of one another.

We've been watching the ropey old series The Stand. It's innocent, naive quality has become its strength. It's not showing off, it's being crudely honest, like a child's drawing. The scene with Molly Ringwald kissing her dead father's forehead and sewing him into his shroud before putting him in the hole in the garden, all the while singing Amazing Grace, might be the most beautiful King moment in any of his movies, and a beautiful moment anyway.

I see we have stopped fighting about things like sex and gender and race and everything. We finally found the connecting things. The common stuff. I never expected to send Boris a get well message after all the other messages I sent him. I realised people in the old days probably accomplished so much because when you're working stress goes away, the horror only takes hold when you are not moving. When they stopped moving their very real hell took hold of them. This is all quite motivating. I'm so sad for the people experiencing the horrors but can't see how any other event might have made us wake up like this.

Here, one has to be reminded of the surreality. I mean that it's mostly just like a quiet normal day, every day. The nights are quieter, from cars.

Online, or on FB, at least, the political rancor is as alive as ever, sadly. I notice I'm like everyone else, on FB more now... but I'm just getting used to this quarantine, having arrived at it later than others (I had to work even more that first week, before finally losing my job).

I always believe in these big things of life, there's as much of the - to abuse the term - the "world spirit" about it, as human endeavor. I don't have a set concept for what it is happening, my ideas are in flux, and inchoate. But it almost feels like... like things, overall, have been going too well for us 1st World-ers for too long (since WWII), and so - there was an idea of, shall we say, placing a deliberate scratch on the new car - a superstitious act some do, when they buy a new car, to prevent worse accidents from happening (goes back to that concept of perfection angering the jealous gods, so best to keep things just below perfect). It's almost like we're all going through this, that is, to prevent a worse tragedy befalling, out of the blue.

This is all messy and unclear, but I guess I'm reflecting upon - to me - the wholly man-made aspect of this. I am not of a mind that we are reacting to a genuine crisis: I am of the mind that a crisis was met by an overwhelming, overdone, human response - for good or bad ends, I don't know.

And lest anyone think I'm not abiding by the quarantine, I am; and I encourage others to do so, too. But privately, I quibble and quarrel with this whole thing - I think it wholly unnecessary, overreactive, and faux. It feels like exploitation by nefarious hands - especially when you look at the INSANE swings in the stock market. It feels like we're just puppets dangling by strings held by.......?

This is the kind of thing you'd say in the school playground, but I heard that in that Israeli martial art (crab claws?) people punch hard things to create microfractures in their hands that heal stronger than the bones were before.

Gaia. God. Government plots. It's like a dick poking through a glory hole. How could we know?
I was listening to the amazing soundtrack to that old Stand show and musing how it was both uplifting AND sad. It was interspliced. You can't separate it. You never could. I heard on the radio today how we might be headed to a poorer but richer world, where we have less money but more time. I hear reports every day of the quiet of the world, the fresher air in town centres. People are dying, but the world is healing. It's neither happy nor sad. It is both happy and sad.

I'm fortunate to be living in California, which is now making news for resisting the usual trend of this virus - our numbers are very low, in cases and deaths. Prevailing opinion seems to be we got it before everyone, but didn't know it - I tend to agree with that.

Some think strong sunlight kills it. Maybe it's that.
Yes, I hear there are 10 varieties of it, some barely noticable, and many do think that for some its come and gone.

It's what some guy told me on instagram. But then my son's doctor girlfriend told me most people are fine. I'm confused.
I hear Putin says confusion is ace. He hired a theatre director to help him come up with confusing things.

It reminds me of Struwpeter. I loved those horrible things.
I was thinking of this astrological guide to what happens to victims in a horror film depending on their star signs. Mine was virgo, "I survive". I am virgo, sheepish, shy, not daring. For me survival means never really having lived. I think they should make a movie that addresses this, the killer as being a test of what constitutes living.

I keep forgetting, and getting distracted from, coming here, guys! But I only come here via one computer that, in fairness, I rarely even get on anymore - cell phones have removed the need for getting on computers - all a roundabout way of answering:

Yes. Okay, doing fine.

Well, it looks like it's subsiding, life seems normal and tolerated. Had my jab. Herd immunity seems to be happening, though it looks like a lot more people died than was expected.
I kind of miss the strictness and fear, though, which seems crazy. People seemed...I don't know, more supportive of one another.

Gah, what's the point

Out here, it's like the word went out far and wide: IT'S ALL OVER. The govt. itself is quickly trying to move on as fast as possible. I don't know exactly why, but it's like the move is on to push it all under the rug forever. They figured out a way to "end it" legally, without fear of suing, etc.: if you've been vacced, you can go mask-less. So if you're not vacced, say, and you go out and get/spread it - that's on YOU, not on govt., the business you entered, the people you were around, etc. They planned this just before summer - long known by TV/film industry as the time of "great resets": 4+ months of inactivity does wonders for erasing old cultural no-no's, and creating new cultural icons. We're in a great reset for the coming fall... and what will be that big thing, I ponder?...
