I told you he was a comedy genius! I saw one of his three-hour, one man shows way back (possibly twenty years ago) at the National, and it was wonderful stuff.

Never liked this bloke - I didn't get the joke, and thought he overacted in an embarrassing manner. Sad to hear of his passing though.

I never really understood what he was getting at, but he was on some book programme defending PKD's 'VALIS' against Mariella Frostrup's condescending questions and he tore her to bits, so he instantly became an excellent chap in my book.

Best comment was;

"I'm glad you don't understand it because I don't want people like you reading my favourite book!"

And for that alone I am sorry he's gone.
