I've got a new story in a magazine which pays international authors with PDF's of the magazine! Does anybody think this fair? Saying that, I think I must be the only contributor to the (now) defunct 'Here & Now', who hasn't been paid. Sixty bleeding quid is a lot to me. Even with the pound at an all time low, it still does pretty well in zloty. Jenny, the editor contacted me three months ago and said she would rectify the mistake, but alas I think another two years will elapse. |

"I've got a new story in a magazine which pays international authors with PDF's of the magazine! Does anybody think this fair?" It's presumably fair in the sense that contributors knew the terms before submitting material. If not, then not. |

Actually, I went in there blindfolded... Seriously... Well, Ramsey, this fella' failed to pay the last time, and I let it go...not to mention he failed to send me a copy of the mag, but I also let that go. This time he told me a PDF was my contributor's copy (fair enough), but I'd be paid. Alas, one quick check of the website and the payment is now listed as a PDF! So, I suppose it's a case of half and half. It's not about a small token handshake, just it'd be nice to have the effort rewarded as originally promised. |

Then again, I guess I'm the dick who submitted a second time. Hmmmm, bet that was on the tips of several tongues. |

Write a story where a certain editor "Jenny," after screwing various writers, is dismembered slowly and exceedingly painfully. Mail it to her home address. Then mail her various saws and instruments of torture in a package, with a note: "Third 'package' arrives sometime tomorrow, when you're sleeping...." |

Frank, I would recommend you withdraw your story if the editor has reneged on an undertaking to pay you. And mention my name by all means as your advisor if you like. |

Maybe you should tell us the name of this editor in case he starts up another magazine. |

Thanks Ramsey, but I guess it is down to me for not having checked the site even after the initial agreement. But what really galls me is Jenny from Here & Now. By all accounts I hear she's a nice lady, yet I have yet to receive my 69 quid years after the publication. Once again Ramsey, cheers, but I'll let it go. Albie - I'd rather leave it mate, I was just having a moan and it's partly down to me. I doubt the fella' means any harm. He wants more stuff from me, but I'm a bit hesitant, but he seems to be eager. |

Maybe they got lost in the post. Did you ask if he sent them? |

Jenny Barber is nice, yes, but considerably more experienced (and prestigious) editors have been known occasionally to not keep on top of a project's finances. Editors are not accountants. They don't know from spreadsheets. Keep nagging (politely of course) and hopefully it will work out. When Robert E. Howard died, WEIRD TALES owed him thousands of dollars for stories it had published. Effectively the magazine was getting Conan on the never-never. |

From my experience with Here & Now, the whole thing seemed dogged with all kinds of problems - I.T. failures, a misplaced faith in the market, too many stories accepted, not enough time to run the thing... It's a shame the magazine had to fold; I certainly think it published some good work in its short lifetime. |

"Editors are not accountants." Someone please tell our finance department that! |
