Has anybody heard from Huw lately? He has been strangely absent these last couple of weeks.

Gulp! I think I left him tied up outside the post office.

But that string of murdered postal workers!

Basically THE BEAST IN THE CELLAR.

You mean you still have Post Office branches in Hull? Golly. Now I know where to go to send out books - I've been driving to Newcastle each week. I think Hull is closer.

Actually I think we don't. Our post office is now in WHSmiths.
That's probably where Huw is. The horror section is a vast four feet wide labyrinth.

He's been ill, as we know. We're thinking of you, Huw. Hope things are going better.

Give him my best for his recovery, Ally! Or have it yourself, Huw, if you read this. Or both.

FYI if I understood correctly Huw lives in Taiwan, not in Hong Kong.

I definitely wish for Huw's speedy recovery!

Thanks for the kind thoughts, everyone. I haven't posted for a while because I've been in and out of hospital a lot lately, and when I get home I'm exhausted and hurting too much to use my computer for any length of time (I started writing some posts a few times, but had to give up). Anyway, I'm feeling a bit better today after resting all day yesterday, so I'm going to post as much as I can while I'm up to it.

I'll try not to go on about it too much because I'll end up boring the heck out of everyone, but I had a long talk with the pain management doctor a few days ago, and he wants me to prepare myself for the idea of having surgery before long (I'm not sure which kind yet, but they say I'll definitely need at least one operation). I'm going to forward my medical records to some places that specialise in spinal/neurological problems and see what they suggest. In the meantime the doctor wrote me a prescription for some strong painkillers, muscle relaxants and anticonvulsants, so at least I can get some relief now. It's the first time I've ever had to sign for medicine, but they are quite strict about it, as some of them are controlled substances (the opioids, basically). I have to pick it up every 2 weeks (normally it's every 1-2 months), but he said if I'm unable to come myself a family member can pick it up. I'm glad I found this doctor - he actually cares and listens to what I say, unlike a lot of pain clinic doctors I've heard about.

One curious thing is that none of the doctors who've looked over my records can understand why I'm not getting severe pain in my legs, which, apparently, I should, given my condition. They all seemed surprised that I can get up and about at all. I suppose that's one thing to be thankful for.

Thanks again, folks. It's very touching. If I don't post for a day or two here and there, it's probably just due to my back playing up. I'll try not to disappear too often! I can't go out much, so I'm going to do lots of reading (lord knows I have plenty of books to catch up on). Maybe I'll even write something...

Ally, I hope you have a nice time in Hong Kong. (I think in her post above Ally actually meant she would try to post on the board while she's in HK - correct me if I'm wrong Ally!)

Albie: funny you should mention feeding me, as I received the other day a strange, hamper-shaped parcel that appeared to bear the postmark of Hull, but I'm afraid to open it, for fear of spindly, scrawny little legs emerging... ;-)
