After a bit of a writing slump, I've just heard that PS Publishing will publish my first novel The House of Canted Steps. Thought I'd share the news with you guys first. I'm delighted. It's due out in 2010. It's a haunted house story.

Well done, Gary. Also Mark tells me to say well done too - he's away in Geurnsey. He also says to say 'the lead character swung it', if that means anything.

Thanks, all! You're all too splendid.

Tony, tell Mark that I'm glad his monicker isn't Monica, or else it would all have been silly.

Speaking of, though... and don't bother if you feel it ruins it, but... what's the logline?...

Here's the pitch blurb, if that's what you mean:

When Mark Cookson values a house and then puts it on the market with his estate agency, he slowly begins to suspect that the place is actually haunted.

Mark's ex-wife has a new lover and is now pregnant with a second child. They and Mark's seven-year-old son are seeking a bigger property, and see this house on the agency's website. It is perfect for them.

After they all move in, Mark must confront some of his own familial demons in order to save his son from the terrible ghostly ones that still linger in...

...The House of Canted Steps.

Sounds like a classic, fun ghost story Gary!

Hollywood would ask you to shorten that down to one sentence, though....

Oh yeah, and you have to do this-movie-meets-that-movie. What's the two movie comparison?

Craig, no problem:

One sentence: Where's Scooby-doo when you need him, the ginger floppy-eared pussy?

Two movie: It's Four Wedding and a Funeral meets Apolcalypse Now.

That clearer?

Well-bloody-done Gary!

I was thinking at FCon you had been quiet on the publishing front....

The blurb makes this sound a little more commercial (...Sorry, there isn't a good way to describe what I'm...trying to describe!) than your short stories.

Will this be in a similar vein or a departure?

PS. 2010 is good for me....I have a mountain of books to get through!:-)

It's very much like my short stories, GCW. But, er, longer, of course. If you've read 'The Familial' from Sanity and Other Delusions, you know what to expect: queasy psychology and ghosts from behind the eyes.

I've been bitten to buggery! No deep fried chocolate locusts for me and had to walk down the creepiest pathway near the jungle last night besides the gravestones. It was called Snake Path and I didn't have a torch :>(
