Hi Huw - no sign of any typhoons and thankfully not too humid. Getting a plane home to England tonight. Looking forward to autumn - I'm of the northernland ilk and prefer snow and ice :>) |

Thanks Gary F! Finally home but very jet lagged. I'm sitting at my desk and I feel like I'm rocking on a boat. Going for ten minutes of zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz's. |

Thanks Zed! Quite a lot of time still spent in looking for wider audiences but I think that it is time now to start the novel I haven't had time for. And yes, people are reluctant to buy books at the moment with this financial crisis going on. |

Though some of us are eagerly buying books because (a) we have no prospect of going on holiday or buying an iPod any time soon and (b) the way things are looking, there will be no bookshops by Christmas and no more books at all this time next year. |

Well done on the sales front, Ally. Many writers have suffered because their publisher lacks an effective sales function. Sales is work like anything else: if people don't do it, it doesn't happen. What's more, I've seen you in action and your sales approach is hardly the hard sell: it's just patient, dedicated and quietly confident. |

'your sales approach is hardly the hard sell: it's just patient, dedicated and quietly confident.' I'm happy you said that Joel. I wondered if anyone would notice my approach to it all :>) Sadly - The marketplace will be even tougher through the winter. Books are a comfort but when there will be a choice beween bills to be paid... |

Ally - Congrats on the book again. Sorry, I didn't post earlier but I was too busy talking nonsense. PS: If you weren't already happily married, would marry me? Say yes, that way I can steal your ideas while you're asleep. |

The online version has a few mistakes in it. Should be caul bearer not pall bearer and Simon should be listed as horror writer. Few other typos too but hey, goodish coverage for horror writers.. http://www.whitbygazette.co.uk/news/A-terrifying-selection-.4645152.jp |
