Surely someone has seen this? I have, of course, and loved every moment. I kept hearing folk saying how good it was and sort of believed they must have something, but they were wrong; it's better. It's one of these films that's deceptively frothy, but which digs pretty deep. I got the same vibe from it as I did Branagh's Much Ado, and honestly did come out of the cinema feeling better than when I went in. Honest folks, it's up there with Batman as one of the goodies of this year. |

Fortunately the good lady wife went to see this without me. I dunno why but the thought of watching Meryl Streep and Brosnan singing Abba songs sends a shiver of revulsion up my spine. Plus I'm not a massive Abba fan. |

You know - did I mention this? I might have - I had read the New Yorker review of the film MAMA MIA, which utterly trashed it... but in the course of the article, they were mentioning other better (the reviewer thought) movies that utilized ABBA music... MURIEL'S WEDDING was of course mentioned, a great flick... but another film was brought up in passing, which I'd not heard of before, called TOGETHER (2000): Swedish film, directed by Lukas Moodysson, set in the mid-70's, about a sort of hippie commune... so I Netflixed it, hoping for something at least not boring... wow: one of the best films I've seen in years, on all levels... I cannot praise it enough... fwiw.... |

The three of us went and saw it; good fun (and great songs). Streep can actually sing really well; Brosnan can't carry a tune in a paper bag, but he gave it the old college try, and got marks for enthusiasm if not singing ability. Julie Walters and Christine Ebersole were great fun - they've forgotten more about stealing scenes than most actors ever know - and all round it was just a lot of fun. |

I love Muriel's Wedding. That's a quality film. It's not so much ABBA themselves that I dislike, I just saw a clip of Streep singing a medley of their songs and it sent a shiver up my spine. No idea why. I'm just weird that way. |

Shiver as in good? I've just discovered John Cage. I bet you're all relieved. |

That's the guy. His stuff is good to write to; it sends you off in different directions, which is something I'm sure he have liked to hear. Also a musical based on his stuff would be something I'd like to hear. Jon - I blubbed at Mamma Mia, several times. It was just the joy of it, the sense of life. |
