I'm becoming fascinated with apocalyptic fiction lately. There are several classics I think I need to read - several of which aren't even classed as "horror". It seems a very literate sub-genre.

Indeed it does. It fascinates me so much at present that I'm rewriting a bad novella set partly before the big apocalyptic belly up. Which will no doubt sit gathering dust for many an aeon.
