I've been watching theSE on DVD and SPECTRE is one of the 3 I missed on TV.

It's quite simply the best ghost story I've seen IN years: beautiful, elegiac, tense, and genuiney frightening. There are so many good things about this wonderful little film: the repeated motif of a corpse wrapped in dirty sheets...the breathtaking scene in the hotel bathroom...the amazing reveal at the end.

Oh, my.

SPECTRE is absolutely first class. It moved me, scared me, and made me fall in love with the traditional ghost story all over again.

Gary, are these the Spanish films that were shown on BBC 4 recently? I missed them all; are they available in a box set or individually?

There's a boxed set of 'em - I was actually dabbling with getting it last week. However it's Region 1, and my DVD player is a bit temperamental when it comes to Region 1 disks. I am tempted though.

What sort of price is the set? I was thinking of it myself as, like Zed, I only saw half the series. Loved the mad one about the landlady...

Ooh, just seen it on Amazon for $24.99, which is about fifteen quid, plus p&p. Any better offers around?

I think it was £12 & change on Amazon (UK), so around £15 with p&p. Ships from the US though.

£12 - that's the one I bought. Just watched A CHRISTMAS TALE: another corker, like weird EC style story.

I've seen them all now, and these are excellent - head and shoulders above anything Hollywood is currently doing. The weakest one is BLAME, but that's still very compelling, with a great ending.

Ah-ha - yep, just ordered it from Caiman via Amazon.co.uk for £12.42 plus p&p, about £13.60 in total - used Cailman a fair bit in the past. Cheers chaps.

I haven't seen Spectre yet. I loved The Baby's Room and thought Blame was well made but disappointing (I think it fell apart toward the end).

Went ahead and ordered this on Monday - disks arrived today, they work (phew!), so that's my Halloween sorted. I guess being stuck indoors with flu isn't so bad ...

I think TO LET was pretty good as a straightforward thriller too...

The films range from pretty good (BLAME) to excellent, IMHO. The best being SPECTRE THE BABY'S ROOM and TO LET.

Indeedy - 'tis a nice set - I'm glad I bought it, having seen only half the series when it was on tv.

I think I'll plump for this boxset, based on this thread.

I think I can trust your judgement...

SPECTRE is incredible. Maybe I was in a receptive mood, but it really scared me.

I'm planning to watch Spectre tonight. I would've watched it last night, but I fell asleep watching Amando de Ossorio's third Blind Dead film, The Ghost Galleon (quite atmospheric in places, but dreadfully slow and cheesy - it's the least effective of the series, I think). Now it's light, and there ain't no way I'm watching a horror film by daylight!

Think I'll give The Asphyx a rewatch, too.

Watched BLAME and SPECTRE last night - wasn't at all keen on BLAME, but SPECTRE was excellent; a beautifully constructed ghost story.

BLAME, in comparison, struck me as extremely heavy-handed, especially when you consider the thematic similarities it shares with SPECTRE.

I think they're showing some of these on BBC2 over Christmas.

The Christmas Tale is on on 23rd December very very late.

You know, that Children film felt like it was going to be upm there with these Spanish things for about the first twenty minutes.
Alas...
