John - I had a screenwriter friend rave recently over SAVE THE CAT, and he was using it as his new Bible; he's a produced screenwriter, sold lots of stuff (few made, though), so for him to be so sold on it.... I had heard nothing but good things about this book; and now if its reputation has spread across the pond, I'll have to check it out. I think the elements that make up a great script/movie, are mostly indispensable in prose writing as well. Screenwriting, actually, I maintain, is more difficult than prose; that's because it's like form poetry, it's SO demanding of specific structures, conventions, etc. Like poetry, it seems deceptively easy to produce... but look at how many great poets have offed themselves over the years... there's a reason for that.... |
