NO SPOILERS Well, I saw this last night and it was damned good. A real sense of menace marred only by several stock horror cheesy lines - "The demon will get through the mirror!" - and frankly a title that puts me in mind of a Bette Midler movie. But Keifer was great, and there are some real scenes of terror here, as well as innumerable inventive and creepy set-pieces: the 'race to save the innocents' at the end is particularly gripping. A refreshingly good horror movie. Forgive it its gimmicky premise and you'll have a grand old time with this one. |

You mean you trust me on a film? It's happening, everyone! I'm moving towards the fringes of the gang! |

Whoops, didn't see this, but I've gone for Mirrors on the grammar thread, where it was also being discussed. |

:<) It's OK, boss. I'm giving up this film malarkey to free up more time for basket-weaving. |

Mebbe I should hunt out the original and compare. A change in my frame of reference might lead to a new reflection on Mirrors. |

Have not seen the original either, but I have to admit that I was not too impressed either by this. In Gary's defense, yes it had a couple of ok set pieces, but I have no way of telling if the few good ideas came from the original... I just saw Xavier Gens French horror film Frontier(s) on DVD and that was a lovely piece of survival horror cinema- way over the top, but just this once, in a good way I thought. certainly well shot and edited. Somehow the most terrifying scene for me was the one in the tunnel, not all the maiming etc. A nod to the casting of the father figure villain- what an amazingly uncomfortable face he had. |
