I bought "The Big Book of Necon" from Cemetery Dance, shipment to Italy. The tracking number's feedback is at a standstill, informing that USPS, though notified by the sender about the oncoming parcel, cannot confirm having received the parcel for forwarding. Nothing has yet moved in a week. I wrote to CD about their shipment's stalling by USPS. They replied, in total sincerity I believe, that USPS tracking system is not very reliable, so what's happening here? Either the book has really stuck with the US Postal Service or it's being processed and the tracking system is being ignored or mulfunctioning. And I was thinking bad of Italian mail service! Well, this rigmarole just to bring Ramsey's story, "Burning", to attention as it is published there, though I doubt I'll ever see it! |

Is that story the same as 'The Burning' in G&S and INCONSEQUENTIAL TALES, or a new story? If the former, it's not bad at all. In fact INCONSEQUENTIAL TALES is mostly better than its title and intro suggest. If it were a Dylan album, it would be somewhere in between SELF PORTRAIT and THE BASEMENT TAPES. |

You're very kind, Joel! Yes, that's the same tale, originally from Gilbert and Sullivan - Ghosts & Scholars, I mean. And good lord, a copy of the Necon book has just arrived. |

Ghosts & Scholars, the magazine in which 'The Burning' first appeared back around 1982. |

So, is "BURNING" in the Big Book of Necon the same as in Inconsequential Tales? Or so I seem to understand. I was drawn to the Necon book mainly by Ramsey's tale among others, actually. I hope it is, as there seems to be a snag in getting the Necon book by way of USPS. |

Ramsey, run my Dylan analogy past Jenny and see if you still feel I've been kind! A better analogy still might be Nick Cave's B-SIDES AND RARITIES. That werewolf story is, to my mind, better than several tales in that vein that you've given more exposure. |
