Ah, zed mentioned Satanic forces sub-genres. Just watched this film for the sole reason Asda had it in for £2. And - it wasn't bad at all. Not great, or particularly well crafted, but not without some effective moments and ideas and images. It is basically the Omen revisited and it suffers most when it tries to emulate that film too closely, as deja vu robs it of any original effect. Effects is a good word to use all round basically, as it's another film that cherishes them and uses them because it can, which all too often cripples a good film. Its basic fault is it just felt like a movie, is all. |

I quite fancy seeing this, Tony. Despite being (or because of being) a non-believer, I love Biblical and possesion horror films. |

You know, thinking about it today, it wasn't bad at all. Nice setting and mood, I thought. |

I saw this a while back on the big screen. I liked some of the build-up in the first half, with the two leads investigating the phenomena, but thought it quickly descended into horror cliche and predictable plot twists. I think it could've been a lot better if it'd been less formulaic. I thought that Idris Elba, and, especially, Stephen Rea, were absolutely wasted on this film. It passes the time though, if you're in the right mood. I've just been watching the trailer for Shymalan's forthcoming film The Happening and, I have to say, it looks quite promising (there's some great imagery and a sense of mystery on the trailer). I'm looking forward to seeing it and think/hope it might be a return to form for the director. |

There're a couple of trailers for THE HAPPENING on imdb - looks intriguing, to say the least. |

The Reaping missed alot of opportunities with the material it was working with I thought. The Happening looks alot like Signs- some kind of invasion movie with the compulsory built-in twist probably. He'd better make this one good as his films have been becoming worse and worse- though I mostly enjoyed Signs- it had a great score that one. |

Yeah, The Reaping did trip a lot, but it had nuggets here and there, I thought. Everything now feels so slick, though - it's like static on screen, and actually intrudes. But for a Dark Castle movie it wasn't bad! |
