Ramsey's novelisation of M.J.Bassett's "Solomon Kane" movie should be out from Titan Books on February next year. I am too lazy to post a direct link: just advance-search Amazon.UK and you will find it. |

But is it news to Robert E. Howard? Tangent: Someone sent me a funny postcard a while back, it reads - "So I haven't written much lately! So what? Neither has Shakespeare." Never fails to make me laugh.... |

'Ramsey's novelisation of M.J.Bassett's "Solomon Kane" movie should be out from Titan Books on February next year. I so want to read this....looking forward to it and the film.... 'At the 2006 San Diego Comic Con, it was announced that a feature film based upon the character of Solomon Kane was in development at Davis-Films, with Michael J. Bassett writing and directing. The film will be produced by Samuel Hadida and Paul Berrow, and reportedly began shooting in Czech Republic in January 2008, with James Purefoy (Rome's Mark Anthony) as Kane. Max von Sydow plays Kane's father, and Pete Postlethwaite, Alice Krige and Jason Flemyng are among the supporting cast. Patrick Tatopoulos, creature designer for Godzilla, Underworld, Silent Hill, I Am Legend and others, conceptualized the monsters Kane fights in his battles with the forces of evil. The film is set for UK release on 12 March 2010, courtesy of Entertainment.' |

I LOVE movie tie-ins! Or rather used to. The dvds of the old days. Ramsey - was it fun to write? Was it even useful? |

"Ramsey - was it fun to write? Was it even useful?" I enjoyed doing it, and I'll admit I haven't worked so intensively on a piece of fiction for a long time. The last few weeks it's been at least nine hours a day, pretty well seven days a week. That's not a complaint, just an observation. I accepted the deadline and I'll deliver. But I do think working from someone else's material occasionally is a useful discipline. |

I was also wondering if it means you've seen the film, how it affected the minds eye, or if you had to work from a screenplay? I have to admit this all fascinates me. How come you were approached for the project? And James Purefoy and Jason Fleming are excellent actors, both largley unsung, underappreciated and underused, I have to say. I hope it bodes well that they are in the film. Thanks, Ramsey. |

I should think the producers approached me either because I'd completed several of Howard's unfinished Kane tales or on the basis of my three Universal film novelisations, or maybe both. I've seen the film and also read the final screenplay and earlier drafts. I've incorporated scenes the writer-director would have liked to include in the released version, and as with the Universal books, I've tried to stay as close as possible to the film. James Purefoy I thought especially good - very moving at times. |

This is great news – congratulations to Ramsey. The Solomon Kane stories are among Howard's best works. Philip Ridley described the story cycle ten years ago as 'the greatest fantasy film never made'. |

This is one of the few film novelisations I'll buy. Actually, I can't wait to read it. And the film looks amazing from the few clips I've seen. |

Hopefully Kane will get to fight batlike harpies in Africa. That story always worked for me. |

Blimey, a novelisation I'm actually not only wanting to read, but one I'm looking forward to too! I quite fancied Whitley Strieber's novelisation of The Day Fater Tomorrow, but ultimately couldn't commit to getting it, even when it was a quid in a clearance sale. Mind you, I prefer Robert Holdstock's superb novelisation of The Emerald Forest to the movie... |
