Hey, the BFS longlist has been announced! And I'm on it! As are lots (and I do mean lots) of other people! Congratulations all!

http://www.britishfantasysociety.org/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&i d=592:british-fantasy-awards-2010-the-longlist&catid=34:bfas&Itemid=35

Any BFS member who wants to read my longlisted story, Marley's Haunting, contact with directly and I can send you a PDF of it. Not that I want you to read it and consider voting for me so that it progresses onto the longlist, oh no. That would be tacky. This is just for the sake of information!

Yeah, yeah - don't spoil it for me, this is a first as far as I'm concerned! I realise I've got bugger-all chance of getting any further than this but still...

Very happy but slightly embarrassed to have picked up a recommendation for Theaker's Quarterly.

However, this could be my year. For one thing, Postscripts is now counted among the anthologies rather than magazines. And for another, I'm about to treat the awards admin to a cup of tea.

Congratulations, all!

I was very surprised that nobody recommended anything from Simon's superb Tartarus collection, Cold to the Touch.

It's the nature of such things, Richard: suprising ommissions, even more suprising additions.

Interesting looking list. Congrats to all - and especially Stephen with TQF. I know how much work you've put into that, so you really deserve it!

Hey folks, you've forgotten to mention Des. Cern Zoo is there too.

And a special "well done" to Simon as it's your first.

In fact, I've kind of got a first on there too. This story:
WORLD WITHOUT END, Marie O’Regan, The Thinking Man’s Crumpet #2

This was the TTMC when I was involved in helping Coral out a bit. But I must stress, Coral did all the hard work here - I was just helping out a bit. Well done, Coral. I know about the blood, sweat and tears which has gone into producing TTMC too. You really deserve this!

I'd have recommended COLD TO THE TOUCH and a number of stories from it, but under the rules I wasn't allowed to :-(
Congratulations to everybody included.

Thanks, Carioline, for mention of CERN ZOO in longlist?

Surprised none of the CZ stories made the longlist - including the one Ellen Datlow chose for her 'Best of' book.

I'm surprised the Steve Volk's After the Ape from the BFS yearbook didnt get in - it's a story I absolutely loved.

Isn't anything published by the BFS not eligible to receive an award as it seems too much self-love?

I've just started that BFS Yearbook and have only read three or four stories so far but agree with Mr Unsworth there; Stephen Volk's tale is very good indeed.

Ian, I think the publications themselves are ineligible, but not the contents.

Steve's right. The BFS Yearbook and In Conversation picked up quite a few recommendations, but all had to be ignored I'm afraid.

'I'm surprised the Steve Volk's After the Ape from the BFS yearbook didnt get in - it's a story I absolutely loved.'

I agree. I rec'd loads and thought someone else would rec it and now wish I had. Not many seem to rec and then... all join in later.

Yes, the Volkmeister's story is conspicuous by its absence, now I come to think of it.
