. . . it looks grand, I think. Delighted to announce that my first novel The House of Canted Steps is now available to preorder in advance of a FCon release: http://store.pspublishing.co.uk/acatalog/The_House_Of_Canted_Steps_jhc.html Or for those of you with deeper pockets, the deluxe traycased signed edition: http://store.pspublishing.co.uk/acatalog/The_House_Of_Canted_Steps_TC.html Your support appreciated. I personally guarantee that you'll get one helluva creepy read out of it. EVERY FAMILY NEEDS A HOME. THIS HOME NEEDS A FAMILY. DESPERATELY. When Mark Cookson values a house and puts it on the market with his estate agency, he begins to suspect the place is haunted. Mark's ex-wife has a new lover and is now pregnant with a second child. They and Mark's seven-year-old son are seeking a bigger property, and see this house on the agency's website. It is perfect for them. After they move in, Mark must confront his own familial demons to save his son from the terrible ghostly ones that linger in . . . . . . THE HOUSE OF CANTED STEPS. ". . . real three-dimensional, believable characters combined with a deeply disturbing thematic dimension . . . " -Stephen Volk "Gary Fry is a master . . . " -Ramsey Campbell "Fry is a writer whose technique is as accomplished as his intellect and imagination are powerful." -Reggie Oliver |

I've read this in manuscript form and it's a belter: clever, scary and very compelling. |

"By Jupiter ... it looks grand, I think." I thought this was about astronomy as Jupiter is rising in the SE every night now, with an apparent magnitude ~ -2.7. It does look grand. Tip: if it doesn't twinkle it's a planet, not a star. |

Did they cut the Ramsey quote before the word bater? Seriously this sounds great but coupled with the Gray Friar releases I'm going to have to start eating nettle soup and stuffing my clothes with newspaper to keep warm ;-) |

No, that was just me messing around with Photoshop. The bogus film poster. It was for a viral marketing campaign I'm gonna do soonest. But I agree that the cover is beautiful. I've been very lucky with covers. |

Needless to say, I am well looking forward to this Gary, you have been absent from my reading pile for far too long. I won't pre-order as there was a bit of a cock up with pre-orders & Fantasycon last year, but I will be purchasing on the night. gcw. |

Gary - now I can see it properly...it's really interesting to look at, quite different from a lot of covers to genre books...don't want to sound like a buffoon, but was the artist inspired by the computer games The Sims? I'll probably regret saying that and insult the artist and yourself to boot. It's not intended that way, but it does remind me of that slightly...it must be the internal logistics of the picture...I love those kind of complicated pictures.... |

Not sure, Frank. A lot of this artist's stuff is like this - PS has used him a lot, but he has no web presence, so I little about him. |

Anyway, it's a great cover. Is it me or has the quality of horror book covers greatly improved over the last decade? Hmmm...it's me, isn't it? |
