I saw this exhibition in Gateshead on Saturday and it's one of the best I've ever seen. The representations of them here don't do them any justice. http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/gallery/2011/feb/13/art-george-shaw-in-pi ctures#/?picture=371660617&index=0 The guy likes his horror films, too, circa the 60s and 70s. The pictures are made using humbrol enamel paint and look very odd, but it adds some sad quality to them I can't describe. I wish I'd stuck to painting - if I had I might have done stuff like this, and be living in north Devon. But hey ho - there's time. |

It was at the baltic - I often don't like it there, but went in because a friend was doing a zip wire from the top. As it was I nearly missed the zip wire bit this was so good. Saying painting is dead is really daft. It's like saying ideas are dead, or looking at things. The pics here aren't the best, either. I'm glad you looked, Zed! |

He could be a writer, couldn't he, with turns of phrase like that.

Those are excellent. On first glance they appear almost photorealistic, but there's something just a little... off about them. |

Zed - they're really alike, aren't they? I think Shaw's have more 'presence', though, a little more finesse. And they do look better in real life. Funny you should get that link, though, so soon after. |
